AI-Era Product Leadershipat the Senior Product Manager level
A Senior PM is expected to make informed tradeoff decisions about AI capabilities, including evaluating whether AI is the right solution, what the trust and governance risks are, and how to measure AI performance post-launch. The evidence requires showing a real decision with real tradeoffs, not just enthusiasm for AI.
Evidence expected at this level
What a promotion committee or hiring panel would need to see demonstrated, not just claimed, for AI-Era Product Leadership at the Senior PM level.
- Made a product decision about where not to use AI, with explicit reasoning about risk or reliability
- Defined the monitoring and evaluation framework for an AI feature post-launch
- Navigated a trust or governance concern about an AI capability with a specific design or policy decision
What changes from PM
Independent judgment under pressure: making hard calls without manager direction, holding them when challenged.
A real interview probe at this level
“Tell me about a time you decided not to use AI for something, or decided to constrain it significantly. What drove that decision?”
A well-calibrated answer to this probe names a real decision, a real tradeoff, and a real outcome. Generic process descriptions do not hold up to follow-up.
