Ethics & Responsibilityat the Director of Product level

A Director of Product is responsible for the ethical standards of the product organization. The evidence at this level requires showing that the team under your leadership operated with an explicit ethical framework and that you made hard calls when ethical and commercial interests conflicted.

What a promotion committee or hiring panel would need to see demonstrated, not just claimed, for Ethics & Responsibility at the Director level.

  • Built or enforced an ethical product framework across the product organization
  • Made a decision to stop or significantly modify a product initiative due to an ethical concern, with real business stakes
  • Built the organizational infrastructure for responsible product development (safety review, ethics board, etc.)

What changes from Principal PM

Organizational responsibility: developing PMs, setting standards, and owning program-level outcomes rather than feature-level ones.
